LP locking is the process of restricting withdrawal of the liquidity-provider asset that controls a token market position.
V2 LP tokens
Traditional AMMs issue fungible LP tokens. Locking usually means sending those tokens to a time-lock or permanent locker contract.
V3 position NFTs
Concentrated-liquidity positions are represented by NFTs. The owner can normally manage or remove liquidity, so the NFT owner is a key verification point.
Immutable versus timed locks
An immutable locker can permanently prevent principal withdrawal, while a timed lock releases control after a date. Neither should be assumed without reading the contract.
Checklist
Verify the pool, position ID, owner, locker code and any functions that can transfer or decrease liquidity. Also distinguish fee collection from principal withdrawal.
How to verify the mechanism in practice
Start from the token contract and follow the launch transaction rather than relying on a dashboard label. The transaction logs usually reveal the contracts that received assets, the pool that was initialized and the transfers that created the market. For concentrated-liquidity pools, also inspect the position manager and position owner. For bonding launches, inspect the curve contract and the state or event that defines graduation.
When a wallet predicts a revert, do not treat the warning as cosmetic. Gas estimation and simulation can expose a wrong router ABI, invalid tick, insufficient allowance, expired deadline, impossible minimum output or another contract-level condition. Cancel the transaction, reproduce it with the same calldata using an RPC simulation, and decode the revert before trying again.
Mechanism checklist
- Confirm the exact chain and contract addresses.
- Separate token valuation from real pool liquidity.
- Identify who owns or locks the LP asset.
- Check the fee tier and fee recipients.
- Inspect minimum-output or deadline protections where relevant.
- Use explorer events to confirm that the interface matches onchain state.
