What Is Locked Liquidity?

Locked liquidity means the assets supporting a trading pool cannot be freely withdrawn by the creator during the lock policy.

Why it matters

If a creator can remove all liquidity at will, traders can be left with a market that is difficult or impossible to exit. Locking reduces that specific risk.

What can be locked

In V2-style pools, LP tokens represent the position. In V3-style pools, liquidity positions are often NFTs. The relevant LP asset must be held by a locker or otherwise made non-withdrawable.

Fees versus principal

A design can lock LP principal while still allowing accumulated trading fees to be collected. These are different rights and should be documented separately.

How to verify

Check the LP token or position NFT owner and inspect the locker contract. Marketing text alone is not proof that liquidity is locked.

How to verify the mechanism in practice

Start from the token contract and follow the launch transaction rather than relying on a dashboard label. The transaction logs usually reveal the contracts that received assets, the pool that was initialized and the transfers that created the market. For concentrated-liquidity pools, also inspect the position manager and position owner. For bonding launches, inspect the curve contract and the state or event that defines graduation.

When a wallet predicts a revert, do not treat the warning as cosmetic. Gas estimation and simulation can expose a wrong router ABI, invalid tick, insufficient allowance, expired deadline, impossible minimum output or another contract-level condition. Cancel the transaction, reproduce it with the same calldata using an RPC simulation, and decode the revert before trying again.

Mechanism checklist

  • Confirm the exact chain and contract addresses.
  • Separate token valuation from real pool liquidity.
  • Identify who owns or locks the LP asset.
  • Check the fee tier and fee recipients.
  • Inspect minimum-output or deadline protections where relevant.
  • Use explorer events to confirm that the interface matches onchain state.
